Question - What forms of payment does Kagi accept?

Answer
Kagi accepts all major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Optima, Discover (Novus), Diner's Club, Carte Blanche, JCB. and Eurocard. We do not accept Switch cards at this time. You can use a debit card as a credit card, as long as the debit card has a credit card logo printed on it.

When paying by credit card, you can choose to pay in the following currencies: United States Dollars (USD), Australia Dollars (AUD), Canada Dollars (CAD), Euros (EUR), United Kingdom Pounds (GBP), and Japan Yen (JPY).

By default, prices will appear in USD. When you select a different currency, the order page will automatically convert all prices to your chosen currency. Most credit cards automatically convert currency, so can order in USD, even if you use a different currency. Your credit card's conversion rate may be better than Kagi's.

If you do not wish to use your credit card, if your credit card has restrictions on making online purchases, or if your credit card is not accepted by our online order page, you can select check, cash, purchase order, or money order as your payment method when placing an order. Make checks and money orders payable to Kagi. Purchase orders are only filled when we receive payment from you by post.

If you choose to pay by cash, we accept cash payment in the following currencies: Australia Dollars (AUD), Canada Dollars (CAD), Switzerland Francs (CHF), China Yuan Renminbi (CNY), Cyprus Pounds (CYP), Denmark Kroner (DKK), Euros (EUR), United Kingdom Pounds (GBP), Hong Kong Dollars (HKD), India Rupees (INR), Iceland Kronur (ISK), Israel New Shekels (ILS), Japan Yen (JPY), South Korea Won (KRW), Malta Lira (MTL), Norway Kroner (NOK), New Zealand Dollars (NZD), Sweden Kronor (SEK), Singapore Dollars (SGD), Trinidad and Tobago Dollars (TTD), Taiwan New Dollars (TWD), United States Dollars (USD), and South Africa Rand (ZAR).

If you choose to pay by check/purchase order, we accept check payments in the following currencies: Australia Dollars (AUD), Canada Dollars (CAD), Switzerland Francs (CHF), Cyprus Pounds (CYP), Denmark Kroner (DKK), Euros (EUR), United Kingdom Pounds (GBP), Hong Kong Dollars (HKD), Iceland Kronur (ISK), Israel New Shekels (ILS), Japan Yen (JPY), South Korea Won (KRW), Malta Lira (MTL), Norway Kroner (NOK), New Zealand Dollars (NZD), Sweden Kronor (SEK), Singapore Dollars (SGD), and United States Dollars (USD).

If you send a check in USD drawn on a bank outside the U.S., the order must be for $100 or over.

We accept American, Canadian, and Japanese money orders

Please do NOT send Kagi cash, check, or money order payments by post without first completing the order online and printing out the Payment Form, which you must include with your payment. If you do not send a Payment Form with your check, cash, or money order payment, there is a good chance that your order will be delayed for several weeks or that your payment will be sent back to you. For more information on the ordering process, please view the FAQ, How do I buy a product sold at Kagi?

We do not accept PayPal at this time. We are working to incorporate PayPal with our systems so that this form of payment will be available in the future.

Question - How do I know that my order is secure?

Answer
Kagi utilizes the VeriSign Digital ID for all secure transactions. VeriSign ensures that when you order from our Online Order Page using VeriSign security, your information is safe from interception and alteration. VeriSign offers a state-of-the-art, completely dependable security infrastructure.

VeriSign authentication procedures have withstood the most rigorous scrutiny from independent third-party auditors. VeriSign is the only Certificate Authority in the world to have passed an extensive independent Type #SAS 70 audit by KPMG, the global accounting and consulting firm. (The Statement of Auditing Standard 70, Type #SAS 70, was established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants to certify trusted practices.)

When you place an order at Kagi, if you click on the VeriSign logo on the left hand side of the order page, you can see a verification of our up-to-date certificate with VeriSign. This service allows us to operate as a secure site and have the "https" at the beginning of any URL where you enter your personal details on our site. This security feature ensures that we are not allowing this information to go outside of Kagi. Additionally we ensure that you are protected by shielding the details of your payment from our suppliers and by blanking out all but the last four digits of your credit card number on our receipts. You can feel more secure ordering through Kagi than ordering almost anywhere else on the internet.

Question - How does Kagi handle sales tax and VAT?

Answer
Overview
This document describes the manner in which Kagi deals with sales tax or Value Added Tax (VAT) on a customer's order.

Kagi is a store (an Internet store to be more precise), and as such must collect sales tax or VAT where required by law, just like any other store. ?he only difference is that Kagi obeys not only the laws of the country and state where we are physically located, but we also choose to obey, for economic reasons, some tax laws written by other countries. ?n addition, Kagi does not want to force its suppliers and customers to break their countries' local tax laws by doing business with Kagi.

What follows is a list of the laws we currently recognize for collecting sales tax or VAT.

For customers located in the state of California in the United States of America
If the purchased product is physically shipped to the customer, California state sales tax is added to the order. ?he base sales tax rate for California is 7.25%. ?f the customer is located in the county of Alameda, the sales tax rate is 8.25%.

Kagi's California Reseller Permit number is: 7/1/1998 SR CH 79295223.

At this time, we do not support California reseller tax exemptions.

At this time, California is the only US state for which Kagi collects sales tax.

For customers located in the European Union (E.U.)
VAT became an issue for online stores based outside the E.U. on 1 July, 2003. If the product you are buying or selling is being rated incorrectly, we apologize and ask you to reference the help section below to help us correct the issue.

E.U. VAT Facts
Under E.U. law, we are required to apply VAT to all products which are delivered by email or electronic download to customers who are located in an E.U. country. The VAT rate we apply depends on the country in which the customer is located. In the table below we list the VAT rates for each E.U. country.

If you believe the product you are purchasing is being taxed incorrectly, please contact us at kagiVatAndTax@kagi.com.

If the product is physically shipped from outside the EU, the carrier (the company that delivers the package) will collect a VAT charge based on the destination country rate and the declared value of the product(s) contained within the package, at the time of delivery. ?f the supplier has specified the correct category for the product, this rule will be observed.

Kagi does not collect VAT for exempt country regions of the EU as defined by the European Commission's document titled "VAT rates applied in the member states of the European Community # DOC/2908/2003 ? EN". To prevent VAT collection during the purchase the customer must select one of the exempt country and regions, using the country selector on the order summary screen.

In addition, if the customer can supply a valid EU VAT number at the time of the purchase, Kagi will not collect VAT. The EU VAT number will be verified at http://europa.eu.int/comm/taxation_customs/vies/en/vieshome.htm. If the customer wishes to enter an EU VAT number so that Kagi will not apply VAT to his or her purchase, we suggest that the customer visit this website first to confirm that the EU VAT number can be verified here. Kagi will not refund a VAT charge after a purchase has been made. Kagi supplies a valid VAT receipt with the purchase, so VAT can be reclaimed when the customer files his or her VAT report.

There is an FAQ page about VAT on electronic commerce on the official EU website at http://europa.eu.int/comm/taxation_customs/index_en.htm.

The VAT exemption for small consignments (under 22 euro) of physical goods does not apply to purchases of digital products. Please view http://europa.eu.int/comm/taxation_customs/index_en.htm for more information.

Kagi's VAT Number
Kagi's VAT number is: EU 372000052. It was issued by Ireland's Revenue Service. Kagi chose Ireland over other EU countries because they speak English and transact business in Euros.

Verifying Kagi's VAT number
Kagi's VAT number, EU 372000052, cannot be verified by the usual VAT validation services such as http://europa.eu.int/comm/taxation_customs/vies/en/vieshome.htm. Kagi was assigned a VAT number which begins EU because Kagi is located in the United States, not in an EU member state.

It is possible for the Mutual Assistance Office (a sub department of the local VAT collection agency) in each EU country to verify such VAT numbers from a database available to these offices. If you live in an EU country and you wish to verify Kagi's VAT number, you should be able to contact your country's Mutual Assistance Office and ask them to verify Kagi's VAT number using their database.

The Mutual Assistance Office in Ireland, where Kagi is registered for VAT, is VIMA (Vies Intrastat and Mutual Assistance). Information for contacting the VIMA Office can be found at http://www.ros.ie/PublisherServlet/liaison (scroll down to the bottom of the screen to where it says VIMA Office).

We are interested in receiving feedback about verifying our VAT number, EU 372000052. If you have any more information on how to verify VAT numbers which begin EU, if you experienced success (or failure), or if you experienced problems verifying our VAT number, please send an email to kagiVatAndTax@kagi.com.

Help
If you are a customer, and you think sales tax or VAT is or was applied incorrectly for a product please contact the supplier of the product and Kagi will work with them to correct the problem. ?agi cannot change the sales tax or VAT designation rate for a single order, only for the product and subsequent purchases. ?agi asks that you contact the supplier because the supplier is the expert on the product and we need their help in determining the product category which ultimately defines how sales tax and VAT should be applied. The supplier can be contacted at the email address given in the "Thanks for your purchase" email you received after purchase.
